Abstract
The author's (1987) model of Kelvin wave reflection at an oscillating boundary is reformulated to allow an arbitrary specification of the amplitude and phase of the boundary oscillation relative to the incoming wave. Solutions are obtained numerically by the method of collocation and imperfect reflection is found to occur in general, in agreement with the author's theory. It is shown that there are three regimes of solutions characterized by the size of the boundary oscillation. In view of the present interest in the North Sea (NERC Community Research Project) it is hoped that this first-order theory can give some insight into the basic tidal behaviour of the North Sea from which more realistic models can be developed.
